Ragunan Zoo Competition

The Government has engaged a Master Planning Competition to develop the concept, consider the feasibility and provide a rational basis for decision-making that will guide future development of the site. 

The Clients Brief and subsequent Goals have led us to readdress the current layout, size and management zones of the Zoo.

The Way Forward is a completely new Zoo concept which migrates the existing zoo layout and species mix into various new different and themed Zoo zones. It is expected that animals currently located at the zoo will be rehoused and incorporated into the new series of exhibits and landscaped spaces. This will incorporate wildlife into the forests, lakes and parklands and will enhance the philosophy of conservation and rehabilitation by returning the over-utilized parkland setting to a naturalistic setting inter-weaved with clear looped circulation and functional communal recreational space for the residents of Jakarta and tourists alike.

The Evolution of Ciputra Zoo to Ragunan Zoo to a new Zoo on this site brings with it special opportunities in design, theming and planning. The new development reinforces the guiding principles established by the existing zoo and be recreated into Indonesia’s premier conservation, ecological and environmental education and recreation facility.
